As we launch into another trip around the sun, I don’t plan to make any resolutions except to eat more, spend more, and laugh more! Fun, huh?
As a loved one of a veteran with PTSD, and a trauma survivor myself, I’ve been learning a lot about self-care and how vital it is, especially spiritual self-care. When we come to this time again next year, I want to say I know the Lord more. I love the idea of getting a head start on eternity, and truly enjoying a deep and intimate journey with God and His Son Jesus Christ…in the ups and downs of this life.
So, how do I know Him more? In any relationship, you get to know someone by spending time with them and by listening to them. Prayer is good, but usually I do the talking.
When was the last time I LISTENED to God and actually HEARD Him?
If God wanted to say something to me, would I hear Him?
Here are a few questions to consider:
*If God wanted to say something to me through a glorious sunset, would I notice?
*If God wanted to say something to me through my friends, would they be good channels of His voice?
*If God wanted to say something to me through social media, would I hear Him?
*If God wanted to say something to me in my wakefulness at night, would my mind be free to hear Him?
*If God wanted to say something to me in the middle of my pain, would my heart be open to Him?
*If God wanted to say something to me through His written Word, do I sit still long enough to hear?
*If God wanted to say something to me from His Word by memory, would there be enough there to hear?
*If God wanted to have me all to Himself at some point in my busy day, would He find me with a listening heart?
I hope you also long to know God more, and to hear Him speak to you. What a thrill that He’s made it possible to know Him, the One Who quiets us with His love, and rejoices over us with singing! (Zephaniah 3:17)
